Dr. med., Dr. med. dent., Dr. h.c. Adolf Roos - grew up in Basel, studied medicine at the University of Basel and later completed his studies in dentistry in Zurich. He gained international renown for his highly regarded study on the development of caries, "The dental caries of Goms children". Adolf Roos was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Geneva in 1956 for his pioneering research work. In 1952, he was made an honorary member of the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
Karl Jakob - previous owner of Karl Jakob Nachf. von J.J. Steiger sel. Erben AG - completed his apprenticeship as a baker in his father's business and took over after his father's death in 1909. During his lifetime, Karl Jakob expanded the company into the largest and most important Leckerly production facility. He also put the company on a more stable footing by expanding the product range in the savory segment. From 1937 until his death, he was guild master of the E. Zunft zu Brotbecken guild and a well-known and popular figure in Swiss singing circles.
